About
Adda Gleason (December 19, 1888 – February 6, 1971) was an American actress and writer born in Chicago. Her career spanned stage, screen, and journalism, establishing her as a versatile figure in American entertainment during the early twentieth century.
Gleason built a substantial filmography beginning in 1914, with appearances in To Be Called For and The Livid Flame. Her screen work continued with Ramona (1916), in which she starred, alongside The Voice in the Fog that same year. She appeared in The Spirit of '76 and Fanatics in 1917, followed by That Devil, Bateese (1918) and The Thunderbolt (1919). Her film career extended into the sound era, with credits including How Baxter Butted In (1925), The Old Soak (1926), Man Bait (1927), and The College Coquette (1929).
On Broadway, Gleason appeared in the 1924 play The Dust Heap, in which she portrayed the character Charlotte.
Beyond performing, Gleason contributed to print journalism, writing for newspapers in the western United States. Among the publications she wrote for was the Morning Journal in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
