Adam Ray

Adam Ray is an American comedian, actor, and YouTuber born on June 16, 1982. Raised in Seattle, he attended Shorecrest High School before earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Southern California. He is of Jewish descent.

Ray built an early presence on YouTube under the handle "adamraycomedy," accumulating more than 506,000 subscribers and over 90 million views. His voice work has appeared in advertising campaigns for McDonald's, Hyundai, Brooks Brothers, Burger King, and the San Diego Zoo Zebra Exhibit. His comedy influences include Chris Farley, Eddie Murphy, Jim Carrey, and Adam Sandler.

In 2012, Ray appeared on Broadway in The Book of Mormon, marking his credit in one of the most prominent productions of that period.

Ray's stand-up career took a distinctive turn in 2019 when he began performing full-length routines as a parody version of television personality Dr. Phil McGraw. The character originated while Ray was wearing prosthetics for a pilot episode of a comedy project; he chose to continue wearing them during a set at the Laugh Factory, and the positive audience response led him to develop the persona further. Ray has described the character as "a late-night version of a daytime guy." Beginning in 2023, he launched monthly shows at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles built around the Dr. Phil character interacting with fellow comedians, with recordings of those shows subsequently uploaded to YouTube. The series generated significant attention and earned Ray an endorsement from McGraw himself. In November 2024, Netflix aired a comedy special featuring Ray in the Dr. Phil persona, which included a face-to-face meeting with McGraw as well as appearances by comedians Patton Oswalt and Jay Pharoah.
