About

Abel Baer (March 16, 1893 – October 5, 1976) was an American songwriter and Broadway composer born in Baltimore, Maryland. Before pursuing a career in music, Baer completed his education at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he specialized in dentistry. His medical career was interrupted by service in World War I, after which he transitioned into songwriting, taking up work with a music publisher and becoming associated with the Tin Pan Alley tradition.

Over the course of his songwriting career, Baer collaborated with a number of notable figures, including L. Wolfe Gilbert, Stanley Adams, Cliff Friend, Sam M. Lewis, and Mabel Wayne. His output as a songwriter was extensive, encompassing titles such as "My Mother's Eyes," "June Night," "Lucky Lindy!," "Don't Wake Me Up, Let Me Dream," "It's the Girl," "Mama Loves Papa: Papa Loves Mama," "Gee But You're Swell," and "When the One You Love, Loves You," among many others.

Baer contributed to Broadway through his work on the scores for the musical Lady Do and the play Old Bill, M.P. In 1929 he relocated to Hollywood, where he contributed songs to several Paramount productions, including Paramount on Parade, True to the Navy, and Frozen Justice.
