A. B. Comathiere, born in New York on November 19, 1877, was an American actor whose career spanned stage, film, and vaudeville. He died on May 18, 1940.
Comathiere began his performance career in vaudeville as part of a team known as Sloe and Connie, in which he performed under the name Connie. He transitioned into film and theater work in the early 1920s, taking a leading role in the 1920 film The Brute, in which he played a character named Bull Magee. His subsequent film appearances included The Hypocrite in 1922, Deceit in 1923 in the role of Reverend Bently, The Midnight Ace in 1928, The Exile in 1931, and Ten Minutes to Live in 1932, in which he portrayed Anthony. Among his most notable film credits was The Black King in 1932, a satire of Marcus Garvey and his followers, in which Comathiere starred.
His stage career was equally active. His theater credits included An African Prince in 1920, Dumb Luck in 1922, Goat Alley in 1927, and a role as Simon Frazier, a lawyer, in Porgy. He appeared on Broadway in 1929 in the play Make Me Know It. Later stage work included The Second Coming in 1931, Ol' Man Satan in 1932 in the role of Satan, and Ragtime in 1933.
